Projects and Plans of Concern to SBVAS

Mid County Parkway: San Jacinto-Corona

The Mid County Parkway is a proposed freeway that would run about 32 miles from I-15 a few miles south of the 91, then east, either north or south of Lake Mathews, south of Lake Perris, and connect with SR-79 in San Jacinto. The public announcement states that it will "encroach upon wetlands and floodplains" and "have an effect on historic properties eligible for the National Register of Historic Places." SBVAS is particularly concerned about the impact that the proposed freeway will have on the San Jacinto Wildlife Area, other natural habitat in the vicinity of the proposed freeway, and the cumulative impacts of development on habitat destruction and the production of greenhouse gases.

The draft environmental impact report/statement (DEIR/DEIS) has been released (see link below) with comments due December 8, 2008. SBVAS intends to file comments. Private citizens may comment if they wish. Two public hearings have been scheduled: Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 6:00 pm in the Perris City Council Chambers, 101 North D Street, Perris CA 92570; and Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 9:30 am at the Riverside County Transportation Commission Board Room, 4080 Lemon Street, Main Floor, Riverside, CA 92501. We urge concerned citizens to attend. The DEIR/DEIS for the Mid County Parkway project is available through the Riverside County Transportation Commission's website by clicking here.
